Families can explore Heavenly’s sprawling 4,800 acres, which spans over two states: Nevada and California. Beginner families want to start at the California Lodge base area; there they have their own zone off of the First Ride chair to learn to ski. Once they’ve nailed the basics they can start working their way up the mountain via Gunbarrel Express chairlift. From there they can further perfect their skills on the Patsy lift. There are more green runs off of Powderbowl Express that are ideal for more experienced beginners. Intermediate families have their run of Heavenly, with blue runs sprawled all over the resort. The most iconic blue runs can be found along the resort’s boundary line. Ridge Run off the Sky Express not only yields the best views of Lake Tahoe, but also some seriously fun sustained cruisin’. Similarly Skyline Trail from the top of the Sky Express heading skier’s left off the chairlift offers a meandering groomed experience sure to please the whole family. For the longest run on the mountain, families can keep skiing right from Skyline Trail into Big Dipper and Perimeter. Kids and parents alike will love boasting that they skied over 2,500 vertical feet on their Heavenly family ski vacation.
For expert families, there are some great single black diamond runs that are certainly challenging, but by no means extreme. Skyway Glades and Dipper Trees are sure to challenge and delight the entire family. Kids and the young at heart will truly enjoy exploring Heavenly’s exceptional tree trails.
