With 20-percent of California’s largest resort to explore, beginner skiers will find plenty of trails to suit their terrain needs. Novice skiers have tons of meandering green runs that offer stunning views of immaculate Lake Tahoe. Heavenly Mountain Resort’s beginner skiing is namely situated further up on the mountain, rather than in the base area, providing beginners with a unique high alpine experience. However, unlike the Heavenly intermediate skiing, you won’t find green runs scattered throughout the resorts vast 4,800 skiable acres. This may sound like a drag to some, but there’s a definite upside. Beginners will be skiing with and around other beginner skiers at slower speeds, rather than dispersed with intermediate and expert skiers. Beginner skiers at Heavenly can feel comfortable, safe and focus on their skiing, rather than who’s skiing near them and how fast they’re going.
Heavenly Beginner Skiing
There are two “learn to ski” areas−complete with surface lifts or magic carpets−one at the California Lodge base area and another at the Boulder lodge base area, so first timers can rest assured that Heavenly has the proper facilities for them to learn in a safe and comfortable way. Beginners who are ready to explore the rest of what Heavenly has to offer should start from on the California Lodge base area, as there are no green runs from the Boulder Lodge base area higher up on the mountain. So, head up Gunbarrel Express and enjoy the beginner trails around Patsy’s lift. Once you’re feeling ready working your way even further up the mountain via the Powderbowl Express chairlift and explore Mombo and Maggie’s trails. This area is where nearly all of the Heavenly green runs can be found, so be sure to stick here unless you feel you’re ready to tackle intermediate terrain.
